Champion League Arsenal Vs Porto Clips

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 12:00 pm

Last night was the best I have ever seen arsenal play in a long while. And it seem that we are now over the initial slump we had at the start of the season.

Wenger said: “We are getting stronger and stronger.” We’re sharp and we always looked dangerous and I feel we have a lot of potential - we’re getting better.”

The Arsenal manager praised captain Thierry Henry after the Frenchman opened the scoring with a well-taken header (two headers in two games), and joked that he didn’t know Henry could score with his head.

“He proved he can score headers. So you always learn something about your players!”

Wenger added: “Thierry doesn’t only play to score goals. But to score 50 in Europe is a tremendous performance. The numbers don’t lie.

“You will not find many players who have scored more goals in Europe than he has.

Porto manager Ferreira said: “Arsenal are a team with the ability to change a game very quickly. Their play was really fast and we couldn’t keep up.

“As soon as they scored the second goal I knew it would be much much harder. We tried to keep the ball but they were really on a roll.

“We had to stick to our own system. If we had got into playing Arsenal’s way the result could have been much worse.”

Ashley Cole should keep his mouth shut

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 11:26 am

Ashley Cole has branded as ‘rubbish’ accounts given by Chelsea in the player’s recent ‘tapping-up’ inquiry.

Cole has been at the centre of controversy ever since a notorious meeting with agents Jonathan Barnett and Pini Zahavi at a London hotel last January.

Then of Arsenal, the meeting led to accusations of ‘tapping-up’ on the part of Chelsea and a subsequent Premier League inquiry.

After a steadily deteriorating relationship with Arsenal, the England left back finally completed a switch to Stamford Bridge at the end of last month, but the recriminations refuse to go away.

Remarking in the Times’ second extract of his autobiography, Cole questions much of the evidence given to the hearing by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and chief executive Peter Kenyon.

“I told the inquiry that everything that had been said about the hotel meeting was rubbish,” Cole recalls.

“Jose Mourinho talked about me and Jonathan both being unhappy,” he said of his new manager’s remarks to the inquiry 16 months ago.

“I grew more and more agitated as he continued by saying that I also wasn’t happy with the relationship [Arsenal manager] Arsene Wenger had with some of the French players and that they were in control of the dressing-room.

“The rest of his evidence wasn’t good for me. Nor was the evidence of Peter Kenyon, who was next up. He said Pini Zahavi made the approach on our behalf.”

Player and club were found guilty of contacting one another illegally, yet Cole remains most suspicious of Arsenal.

“All I could think was that Arsenal had been hell-bent on revenge against Chelsea and hadn’t given a toss about my welfare,” he said.

And Cole hinted the possible sanction of docking points from The Blues might have been behind his old club’s actions.

“Perhaps they thought here was a way of possibly reining back the runaway leaders.”

WTF Chelsea after Arsenal Bendtner

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 8:42 pm

Chelsea scout Benny Nielsen claims the Premiership champions are keeping a close eye on Arsenal’s young prospect Nicklas Bendtner. The Danish international has scored twice in five games whilst on loan at Birmingham City this season and is highly-rated at The Emirates Stadium having formed a prolific partnership with Arturo Lupoli in the reserves last term.

However, it appears his impressive development has now caught the eye of The Gunners’ London rivals, with Nielsen claiming Jose Mourinho has been alerted to Bendtner’s quality by compatriot Frank Arnesen.

“Frank told the club about Nicklas a long time ago and I have also told them it is important to keep a close eye on him in the coming years,” Nielsen told The Mirror.

“Bendtner is the only player from the Danish national team who is good enough to play for Chelsea.”

Despite being just 18-years-old the tall striker has also claimed two goals in two games at international level and is expected to challenge Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie for a first team place at The Emirates Stadium should he continue to shine at St Andrews until January.

The two London rivals have only just completed the acrimonious exchange of Ashley Cole and William Gallas, and The Gunners are unlikely to welcome further interest in another of their players from Stamford Bridge.

Brazilian Denilson sign for Arsenal

Filed under: Sports — admin @ 10:43 pm

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Brazilian Under-19 captain Denilson from Sao Paulo, subject to international clearance.

Whilst most of the transfer deadline day focus on The Gunners revolved around the high-profile arrivals of Julio Baptista and William Gallas, Arsene Wenger also added the promising midfielder to his ranks for an initial £1.9 million.

The 18-year-old played just 12 times for his previous club and Sao Paulo say they expect Denilson to be loaned out to a European club in order to gain experience.

Arsenal could pay a further £1.1 million depending on Denilson’s future performances, and the Brazilian side say they are happy with the deal.

“We have sold an 18-year-old for the same price as an experienced player,” said Sao Paulo director of football Marco Aurelio Cunha told the club’s official website.

“The deal is highly profitable for a player of his age.

“The deal is very satisfactory as we could receive profits in the future.

“There are some clauses which benefit Sao Paulo as we are the team where Denilson was born as a player.”

Denilson will join compatriots Gilberto and Baptista at the brand new Emirates Stadium as he looks to impress in England.

In his short career to date the midfielder has skippered the five-time world champions at Under-17 and Under-19 level, and was recently called up to the Under-20 squad.
