In and open letter to Aol, the petitioners claim that the plan wont do a thing to stop spam, and that its a slippery slope that’s bad news for every internet user. The bottom line is that charging an ‘email tax’ actually gives Aol a financial incentive to degrade email for non paying senders. The letter sates “don’t start a surcharge war that will complicate the internet0 with tiered services and dozens of middleman fees for every simple act of communication.” So far it seems the protest is falling on deaf ears.
